The red light outside the hospital ICU flickered continuously. Meher’s legs trembled on the gray corridor floor. Inside, her younger brother, Shuvo, was battling for his life. Just a few hours ago, driven by his passion for photography, he had visited an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city and witnessed something ordinary people were never meant to see—a secret arms deal between two mafia syndicates. To silence him, he was shot in the back.
The surgeon stepped out of the ICU, removing his gloves with a heavy expression. Meher rushed forward and grabbed his hand. "Doctor, how is Shuvo? Why haven't you started the surgery yet?"
The doctor looked at Meher with pity in his eyes. "Mehereen," he whispered, "your brother is in critical condition. He needs immediate brain and spinal surgery. But our hands are tied."
"Why? Is it about money? I'll give you all my jewelry, my savings—"
"It's not about money, Mehereen," the doctor replied, lowering his voice further as he scanned the corridor. "Aaryan Russo's name is tied to this case. From the South African syndicate to the entire underworld in this city, everyone moves at his command. No doctor in this city has the courage to save someone on Aaryan Russo's hit list. We can't even file a police report."
The words struck Meher like a bolt of lightning. Aaryan Russo!
The name lingered in the city's air like a shadow of terror. Inheriting the throne of a vast mafia empire at twenty-four, he was now, at twenty-eight, its undisputed commander—ruthless, bloodthirsty, and devoid of emotion. His enemies spent sleepless nights, and his men feared him like a vengeful deity.
Meher wiped her tears in a single sharp motion. Beneath her gentle, calm exterior, a fiery resolve ignited. To save her brother, she had to abandon legal avenues. To rescue him from the devil, she would have to face the devil herself.
...
It was a quarter to one in the morning.
Torrential rain poured over the city streets. Outside 'The Black Pearl'—the most elite yet dangerous nightclub in town—raindrops fell with metallic force against the pavement. While appearing as a luxury entertainment venue from the outside, it served as the central command hub of Aaryan Russo’s criminal network.
Meher was completely drenched. Her thin salwar-kameez clung to her skin, and water dripped from her hair. In the back alley, four burly gunmen stood guard, armed with submachine guns. Meher knew a direct approach was impossible. Earlier, near the hospital dumpsters, she had picked up an oversized coat and cap left behind by a waiter. Cleverly dodging the security cameras, she sneaked through the rear service elevator directly up to the top-floor VIP suite.
The heavy wooden door to the suite stood half-open. Inside, the atmosphere was suffocatingly dark. The only illumination came from a faint reddish glow of a lamp in one corner, accompanied by the heavy, rich scent of expensive cigars mixed with luxury perfume.
The moment Meher stepped into the room, a shadowy figure emerged from behind the door. In the blink of an eye, a cold, metallic object was pressed firmly against her temple.
The ice-cold touch of a .45 revolver!
"Step back the way you came, birdy. One more step, and your brains will be plastered all over that wall," came Daniel’s cold, unyielding voice from the side. As Aaryan’s most trusted right-hand man, human life was worth less than a cup of coffee to him.
Meher stood frozen. Her heart pounded so violently against her ribs that it felt ready to burst, yet she refused to back down.
"Stop, Daniel."
A voice emerged from the depths of the shadows. Smooth as velvet, yet laced with a dangerous authority that could command absolute silence.
The large leather armchair in the corner rotated slowly. A tall, imposing figure rose to his feet. Dressed in a tailored black three-piece suit, a few stray strands of dark hair fell loosely across his forehead. His eyes were jet black—like an abyss where only destruction awaited. Aaryan Russo!
Aaryan walked toward Meher with deliberate, slow steps. The sharp click of his leather boots echoed through the silent room with ominous precision. Daniel quietly lowered his gun and stepped back.
Aaryan came to a stop just two inches away from her.
His eyes lingered for a moment on her slender, rain-soaked frame. The overpowering scent of rich tobacco, fine leather, and a raw, masculine fragrance rolled over her.
Aaryan raised his right hand. With rough, calloused fingers, he gripped her wet chin and tilted her face upward in one swift motion. A single raindrop trickled down from her chin onto his palm.
"Hmm..." A cruel, faint smirk touched the corner of his lips. "You have nerve. Do you know the penalty for breaking into my sanctuary, beautiful?"
Meher looked straight into his burning, dark eyes. There was no mercy or warmth in them. But Meher had left her fear outside the ICU doors tonight. She didn't shrink back. Instead, she reached out with her wet hands and tightly gripped the lapels of his expensive suit.
Daniel started forward, raising his gun again in shock, but Aaryan held up a hand to stop him. A flash of dark amusement and volatile curiosity crossed Aaryan's face. The ruler of the underworld—before whom powerful crime lords knelt for mercy—was currently having his collar seized by a defenseless girl struggling to catch her breath!
"My brother is fighting for his life in the hospital!" Meher’s voice trembled, but it burned with intensity. "Why should my nineteen-year-old brother pay for your dirty war with Rodrigo? Doctors refuse to operate on him because of your orders!"
"And so you came here?" Aaryan lowered his voice, his tone dangerous. "To grab my collar and demand justice?"
"I didn't come to beg!" Meher gasped, her chest rising and falling against his. "You have endless money and absolute power. Order the doctors to perform the surgery. In return... take whatever I have. Take my life!"
Aaryan remained silent for a beat. There was fear in her eyes, but zero submission. Any other woman would have fainted under his grasp, yet she stood her ground, setting conditions while looking him dead in the eye. That defiance sparked something raw inside his cold heart.
"Your life?" A dark, enigmatic smile spread across Aaryan's face. His large, powerful hand clamped around her waist, pulling her flush against his body in one hard tug.
A faint gasp escaped Meher’s lips, but she held herself back. Not even air could pass between them now. The heavy metal buckle of his belt pressed against her lower abdomen. His fierce, possessive grip sent a shiver straight down her spine; it felt like standing at the edge of an inferno.
With his other hand, Aaryan used his thumb to slowly wipe away a lingering droplet of rain from her lips with intense deliberation. The touch carried a strange thrill, wrapped in an implicit promise of captivity.
He leaned down until his lips brushed her right ear. His hot breath against her earlobe and neck made her instinctively close her eyes.
"Your life is far too cheap, birdy," Aaryan whispered, his voice resonating through the room like a low rumble. "I don't deal in cheap things. However... those eyes, that pride, and that fiery spirit of yours... I find them rather intriguing."
His grip around her waist tightened. "Your brother will be treated. The city's finest neurosurgeon will arrive at the hospital within the hour. Everything is on Aaryan Russo's account."
Meher opened her eyes and looked up at him. "And in return?"
Aaryan met her gaze with a cold, ruthless smile. "In return, as of this very second, for the next 365 days... you are no longer Mehereen Ahmed. You are Aaryan Russo’s personal property. My captive."
Meher felt her blood run cold.
"You won't take a single breath without my permission," Aaryan murmured, gently pushing a strand of damp hair away from her face. "This body, this soul, every breath you draw—it all belongs to me now. You will live at my estate, serve me, and obey my every word. Deal?"
Every instinct in Meher's mind screamed at her to refuse. She knew she was walking straight into a deadly, blood-soaked trap from which there would be no escape. But the innocent face of her brother lying helpless in the ICU flashed across her memory.
Meher closed her eyes for a brief second. Opening them, she met Aaryan's gaze directly and spoke in a firm, steady voice: "Deal."
A dark, triumphant glint flared in Aaryan's eyes. He released her instantly, causing her to stagger back a step to catch her balance.
Turning toward Daniel, Aaryan issued a sharp command: "Dispatch the medical team to the ICU immediately. And Daniel..."
"Yes, Boss?"
"Bring my personal car around. Take this girl straight to the master bedroom at my estate. Make sure not a single cold breeze touches her. She belongs to me now."
Without another backward glance, Aaryan walked over to his sofa, took a fresh cigar from the ashtray, and lit it. A cloud of blue smoke rose, veiling his features.
As Meher followed Daniel out of the suite, she could feel the heavy, dangerous weight of his gaze tracking her back. The rain-drenched night was only just beginning, and with it, her journey into a dark, violent, and intoxicating captivity.
