CHAPTER 3: MY HUSBAND'S HOUSE RULES

The morning light was just beginning to filter through the sheer cotton curtains of the window into the room. I slowly opened my eyes to a peculiar fragrance. It was not the familiar scent of incense, but the rich, intense aroma of coffee. As the smell hit my nostrils, the rest of my senses gradually awakened.

I opened my eyes and first turned to look beside me. The bed was empty. The pillow next to mine was neatly arranged, making it hard to tell if anyone had even slept there last night. He wasn't there.
